Word Building 1-8
Grade Level 1 Learning to Read
This course provides activities that accompany the A B Cs with Ace and Christi
learning-to-read program. These PACEs provide the foundational phonetic skills needed
for reading and writing mastery. Children learn 35 letter sounds and 11 additional
blends and diphthongs that are basic to all reading. Children should be able to read
even unfamiliar words and material when they have completed this program.
Grade Levels 2-8
Word Building increases students' vocabulary bases and reinforces their confidence and
capabilities in spelling. Earlier levels expand the students' grasp of phonetic
sounds and combinations. Each level presents appropriate spelling rules and their
exceptions by both statement and drill. This course begins with simple words and
progresses through complex words, teaching the relationships between words and spelling
patterns.
Word Building Self Tests and final Tests on CD-ROM discs are available for campus-based
schools. The system uses digitized speech technology to present the oral portion
of the vocabulary test. Each CD-ROM disc contains one full academic level of
tests. The series is designed for use on an IBM-compatible computer system equipped
with a CD-ROM drive. Sound is generated through the computer speaker and optional
sound card support is included.
